Healthy and easy, my homemade Honey Cinnamon Almond Butter is a delicious protein-packed spread or dip!

Some people like almond butter, some love it, and for still others it is a way of life. I definitely fall into this last category. I love almond butter on my toast for a quick breakfast on-the-go, and apples dipped in almond butter are a great snack.

However, what makes almond butter an absolute necessity for me is the punch of protein it gives my breakfast oatmeal. Since I started running a few months ago, I have found that my body seriously needs the extra dose of energy to sustain itself when I exercise.

A couple months ago, I ran out of almond butter and tried doing my morning run without it. Truly, guys, it was pathetic. I felt like my little Ford Fiesta trying to tow a Boeing 747. Up the Rocky Mountains. In the dead heat of summer. Yeah, it was bad…

Since then, I have absolutely refused to go without almond butter in my home.

Now as it happens, my husband and I have a TON of almonds in our pantry. We’re ambitious almond purchasers. We buy them in bulk from Sam’s Club, imagining almond-filled days of munching away on our favorite tree nut. Sadly, we are usually unable to eat all the almonds before they go stale.

Almond butter

My solution? Homemade almond butter, of course! Specifically, Honey Cinnamon Almond Butter!

I love everything about this recipe. I love how easy it is to make, its creaminess, the hint of sweetness from the honey, and the warmth of the cinnamon. The fact that homemade always tastes better than store-bought is a huge bonus.

Seriously, if you have never made homemade almond butter, now is your chance to try it. You will not believe how easy it is.

I’m not going to lie. For some reason, I was kind of intimidated by the idea of making my own almond butter. But I am sure glad I tried it. And honestly, I have no idea why it seemed so complicated at the time. Literally all you need to do is roast some almonds and stick them in a food processor or high speed blender.

Almond Butter

Yep, I know I am definitely not going back to getting my almond butter off a shelf.

Oh, did I mention how healthy almond butter is?! Along with protein, almond butter is loaded with magnesium, copper, and Vitamins E and B2. As if that’s not enough, you also get a double whammy of fiber and monounsaturated fat. These are seriously beneficial to your heart health.

So, yeah. Easy, good for your heart, and delicious. Is there a reason not to try making my Honey Cinnamon Almond Butter?

Equipment

  • Food Processor or High Speed Blender

Ingredients

  • 4 cups almonds
  • ½ tsp vanilla (optional)
  • 3 tsp honey (optional)
  • 2 tsp cinnamon (optional)
  • ¼ tsp salt (optional)
  • 2-3 tsp coconut oil (optional)

Instructions

  • Spread the almonds in a single layer on a sheet pan and roast at 300°F for about 10 minutes, or until fragrant.
  • Add the almonds to the food processor or blender and process for about 3-5 minutes, depending on the speed of your machine.
  • Scrape down the sides of the processor or blender and process again for another 3-5 minutes, or until the almond mixture is smoother and buttery. For the Honey Cinnamon Almond Butter, add the vanilla, honey, cinnamon, and salt. You can also add the coconut oil now if you prefer super smooth almond butter.
  • Process for another 2-3 minutes, or until the almond butter is smooth and easily spreadable.
  • Store in a sealed pint-sized glass mason jar in the refrigerator for up to 2 months, but honestly it never lasts that long in my house :).

Notes

If using a food processor, you may need to give it frequent “breaks” while making the almond butter to prevent the motor from overheating.
I prefer the almond butter without the coconut oil, because I don’t like how it makes the texture more oily. However, if you like your almond butter super smooth, go ahead and add it!
